MAYATLÓN 2017 – A race with a cause. With the aim of bringing more young people to a professional education that will allow them to improve their quality of life, Mayatlón 2017 is about providing a community vehicle for students from various Mayan communities who attend high school. The aim of this transport is to avoid dropping out of school and for more adolescents to have access to upper secondary education. Date: Sunday, March 12, 2017. There will be three categories of relays: mixed, feminine and manly; no matter the age. In order to compete in the 2014 Marathon it is mandatory to have a mountain bike. The first three absolute positions of men and women in cash will be rewarded in the following way: 1st place: $ 5,000.00 pesos MN, 2nd place: $ 3,000.00 pesos MN and 3rd place: $ 2,000.00 pesos MN.
SPRING EQUINOX – Twice a year the earth experiences what is called an equinox, which literally translated means “equal night.” If you are visiting Cancun or the Riviera Maya during the time of the spring equinox then you will soon learn if you don’t already know that this planetary occurrence was and is a big deal for the Mayan people. Each spring equinox, eager visitors stream to Chichen Itza to watch incredible phenomena that occur at the exact moment that the sun crosses what is known as the celestial equator. Visitors and locals will see a shadow outlining the form of a snake of light (Kukulcán) descend the steps of El Castillo until reaching the bottom of Chichen Itza’s pyramid. The Spring Equinox was particularly important as it marked the start of spring and represented rebirth and new beginnings in the earth’s cycles, which on a practical level meant more food and abundance.
